What culture means ?
The "term "culture," which means the cultivation of the soul or mind. Culture plays a big part in our identity creation. Culture makes us who we are and gives us a sense of pride, identity and belonging. Without culture, a society, will never be complete.
What are the concepts of culture ?
There are three main concepts ;
- The evolutionary concept of culture
- The relativistic concept of culture
- The complex concept of culture
1. Why is it important to be aware of having a knowlegde about the concept of culture when working as a teacher?
Without a certain knowledge of the concept of culture you will not be able to differentiate between or compare to other cultures. If you, as a teacher do not know what that is all about, he/she will not be able to pass this knowledge on to the students, who then will grow up in vain of what is happening with other cultures.
2. What challenges do you see in the concept of culture?
Culture clashes are always dangerous especially if the two cultures, or even just the one of them, becomes offended by each other. Mutual understanding should be a must for both of them. If one is in lack of this, it will become hard to cooperate.
3. Is the concept useful when we talk about human differences?
We can always learn from each other, and shouldn't decline anothers point of view. If we do so afterwards, we should still respect him/her for having it, even if it doesn't add up with our own.
4. How is the concept used within your profession?
We, as upcoming teachers, have to be able to see the difference on different cultures, and by then make sure that also others understand each others cultures in class.
